We all use various shampoos, conditioners and other products on our hair. They are usually greasy and oily, especially those used by people who have troublesome hair. We would never think of applying many of these products on our faces. However, we forget that the scalp also has a layer of skin just like our faces do. This layer of skin gets irritated and can end up with the same infections that occur on the face. That includes the dreaded pimples and lesions.
Acne on the scalp is not as common as that on other parts of the body. However, it occurs in much the same way as any other. Initially, the sebaceous glands produce excessive oils that get secreted through the pores of the skin. These oils are prone to invasion by bacteria on the skin surface leading to inflammation. Other contaminants such as dandruff in the hair and ingredients in hair products also cause clogging of the pores of the skin.
The hair can literally be infested with black-heads and white-heads or even more severe inflammations filled with pus. Although these bumps are not visible, they definitely become noticed when they become itchy and painful. Take note of this, the next time you feel like scratching your head.
Use of a mild shampoo would be invaluable in tackling this condition. Look for those that have salicylic acid in the ingredients. This active agent is useful in clearing the dead skin cells and other contaminants that clog up the pores of the skin. The compound is particularly useful since it does not cause bleaching of the hair which can happen with such compounds as benzoyl peroxide. Presence of many contaminants also makes this remedy useful in preventing further clogging of the pores.
Some effective treatments are found right at home using normal everyday products. To combat the oily skin surface, use common baby powder on the hair. Make sure to rub it in on the skin surface and not on the hair. This is effective in causing the skin to dry and prevent excessive oils on the skin. Be careful not to apply too much and make sure to rub it in fully to avoid stains on the hair.
By using proper treatments and keeping your hair clean and free from contaminants, the bumps would get healed with time. This would also save you from pulling out your hair.
